The Aube
A department with lots to see and do
A land of champagne, history and culture, you're in for an immersive experience in the Aube. This is particularly true if you take to the country roads. Get away from it all on a hike through the Forêt d’Orient Regional Natural Park, a 20,000-hectare park right at the heart of Champagne where the stag is king. You can take the Vélovoie trail on foot or bike, but if you prefer water sports, head to the “Grands Lacs” region, home to the Lac d’Orient, the Lac du Temple and the Lac Amance. These lakes are the perfect place for a spot of kayaking or some fun jet-skiing.
There is also plenty of culture and heritage to discover in the Aube, such as at Clairvaux Abbey. Part of the Cistercian tradition, it is at the gateway to the dense forest of the Val d’Absinthe and is an important monastic complex.
Finish your escapade mixing culture and nature by taking the country roads to Nogent-sur-Seine where you can visit the museum dedicated to beloved native Camille Claudel, Rodin’s muse and collaborator.
